KENDRA HORN EARNS EARLY ENDORSEMENT OF
STATEWIDE OKLAHOMA AFL-CIO
First federal Oklahoma candidate to earn early endorsement in a decade
(OKLAHOMA CITY) May 14, 2018 – Kendra Horn, Democratic candidate for Oklahoma’s Fifth Congressional District, announced today her campaign has earned the endorsement of the state’s largest labor organization, the Oklahoma AFL-CIO. Horn was only one of two Democratic candidates for any office in the state to receive the AFL’s endorsement before the June 26 primary.
“After reviewing the candidates in a very crowded primary, we felt it was important for our leadership to communicate to members that there is a stellar choice to represent labor families, and her name is Kendra Horn,” said Oklahoma AFL-CIO President and Secretary/Treasurer Jimmy Curry. “Kendra’s platform on the economy, access to health care and protecting the pensions our members have worked their whole lives for led to a unanimous early endorsement.”
“Labor families are working families, and I’m honored to have their support and look forward to working alongside them to bring common sense values back to D.C.,” said Horn. “Oklahoma employers have nearly 80,000 jobs that are unfilled because of the lack of a skilled workforce, and Oklahoma unions offer some of the best job training in the state. We need to find a way for employers, employees and government agencies to work together to provide job training opportunities to improve our workforce and build economic opportunity for working families.”
It is uncommon for the AFL-CIO to approve early endorsements; Horn’s endorsement is the first for a congressional candidate in Oklahoma in over a decade. “This race is vital, and labor will have a voice in deciding who is the best Democrat to challenge Steve Russell,” said Curry
Kendra Horn decided to run for Congress to bring a fresh voice opposed the gridlock in Washington, D.C. In Congress, Kendra will tackle Oklahomans’ most pressing problems. She will fight every day to make life more affordable for the middle class, to guarantee that everyone has access to health care, to ensure women receive equal pay for equal work, and to give every child the opportunity to receive a first-class education.
